Capes News – October 2024

Trick or Treat!

Happy Halloween! It’s time for a party!

WHO: THE CAPES Community

WHAT: Halloween Gathering

WHEN: Saturday, October 26,2024 from 4 – 6 pm

WHERE: The Bridge House

WHY: The Bridge House Activities Committee is continuing the tradition: let’s have an old-fashioned community Halloween Party. We’ll supply some wine and cheese! You bring cider & pumpkin bread or a spooky treat to share. Come as you are or dress in costume. Hang out for good conversations and, like the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, we can celebrate the end of harvest season together.

A Message About Decor from the ARC…

Most of us know that landscaping or construction plans need approval before we begin. But did you know that outdoor DECOR also requires approval?

According to CC&Rs Section 6.19:

No basketball hoops, lawn ornaments (such as cement seagulls), or any other exterior sports equipment, ornament, or decoration on a Living Unit visible from any street, garage, or carport, shall be permitted on any Lot without prior written permission from the Architectural Review Committee (ARC). All exterior lighting must be directed downward. No plaques, lettering, or signs visible from any road shall be permitted on the exterior wall of any Living Unit without prior written permission from the ARC, except for house numbers in accordance with Tillamook County ordinances.

If you have unapproved decor in your yard, please move it where it’s not visible from the road. If you’d like to display decor prominently, please submit a request to arc@thecapeshoa.org. (Note: Potted plants are fine and don’t need prior approval.)

The ARC will do its best to approve decor that blends harmoniously with our community’s natural coastal environment. Please help us preserve the aesthetic consistency and character of The Capes.

Look Out for Snags!

What is a snag you ask? A snag is a dead tree. Winter is coming and with it, storms with wind and rain. Dead trees are more likely to lose branches and come down during those times. Take a look around your property and see if there is anything there which could become a problem for you or your neighbors and take care of it now. You’ll be glad you did! The office can provide you with a list of tree companies that can help.

The Landscape Committee will be conducting an inventory of all Capes properties in 2025 to identify dead trees and remove those on common areas. Any dead trees remaining on private property at that time, you will be asked to remove.
